Chapter 9 - The Ultimate Disrespect

Laura looked at her younger brother and gave a subtle, affirming nod. "I'm fine, Garrett. But the floor is a mess."

She slowly turned her gaze back to Celeste, who was now visibly trembling, clutching the diamond necklace at her throat as if it could somehow protect her. The arrogance that had defined the blonde woman for weeks was entirely eradicated, replaced by pure, unadulterated terror.

"You thought power was about screaming at people who couldn't fight back," Laura said, her voice echoing in the silent corridor. She pointed down at the shattered pieces of blue-and-white porcelain scattered across the marble. "Do you even know what you just broke?"

Celeste shook her head frantically, unable to form words.

"That wasn't just a vase," Garrett interjected, his voice returning to that cold, terrifying pitch. He took a step toward his ex-fiancée, his dark eyes blazing with barely contained fury. "That was the urn containing our mother's ashes. The only thing we had left of her."

A collective gasp rippled through the staff. Celeste’s knees buckled. She collapsed against the wall, sliding down until she hit the marble floor, completely paralyzed by the catastrophic magnitude of her mistake.

She hadn't just insulted a maid. She hadn't just assaulted the true boss of the syndicate. In her petty, arrogant attempt to humiliate a servant, she had desecrated the sacred remains of the most revered woman in the family's history.
