Chapter 8 - The Hidden Queen

"Garrett... what are you saying?" Celeste whimpered, taking a step back as if the words had physically burned her. "She assaulted me! I am your fiancée!"
Garrett ignored her completely. With a smooth, deliberate motion, he walked right past the trembling, humiliated blonde woman. He approached Laura, the maid with the messy bun and the cheap uniform.
To the absolute shock of every single staff member watching from the doorway, the ruthless, terrifying mafia boss slowly lowered his head in a gesture of profound, unbreakable respect.
"Are you hurt, sister?" Garrett asked, his voice losing its lethal edge, replaced by a deep, genuine warmth.
Celeste stopped breathing. The blood completely drained from her face, leaving her as pale as a ghost.
Sister.
The pieces of the puzzle violently slammed into place. Laura wasn't just a maid. She was Laura Rossi, the legendary older sister who had originally built the syndicate. The woman who had taken a federal prison sentence five years ago to protect Garrett and ensure the family’s survival. She had just been released a month ago, and to protect her from rival cartels, she had chosen to lay low inside the mansion, disguised as a servant.
Garrett hadn't brought Celeste into the house to marry her immediately. He had brought her in so his sister—the true head of the family—could secretly observe her character from the shadows.
Laura had spent three weeks scrubbing floors, serving tea, and silently watching exactly how Celeste treated people she believed were beneath her.
