Chapter 6 - The Lawyer's Briefcase

The entire courtyard went completely, paralyzingly dead silent.
The wealthy guests, Aunt Beatrice, and the arrogant bride and groom stared in absolute, unadulterated shock as the elite corporate lawyer stopped respectfully in front of the man they had just called a penniless loser.
"Mr. Sterling," the lawyer said, his voice carrying a profound, unquestionable reverence as he bowed his head slightly to Declan. "The wire transfers have officially cleared. The hostile takeover is complete. We have the final documents ready for your signature."
Gideon’s jaw literally unhinged. The crystal champagne glass in Vanessa’s hand began to violently tremble.
"Mr. Sterling?" Aunt Beatrice gasped, her face turning entirely pale.
The lawyer opened his expensive briefcase and pulled out a thick, legally notarized black leather folder. He handed it directly to Declan.
Declan took the folder, his scarred face completely devoid of human mercy. He gently squeezed Delaney’s hand, finally allowing her to see the massive, apocalyptic empire he had spent the last three years building in absolute silence.
While Gideon had been recklessly draining the family trust on luxury cars and expensive parties, Declan had taken his brilliant real estate mind to a massive private equity firm. He hadn't just recovered; he had ruthlessly, aggressively climbed to the absolute top of the financial food chain.
Declan slowly turned around, holding the heavy leather folder. He locked his cold, calculating eyes directly onto his terrified brother and his shaking ex-wife.
