Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Reward

The grand ballroom was suffocatingly quiet. The shards of broken champagne glasses still littered the marble floor, but the monsters were permanently gone.

Rowena looked up at Thea. The twenty-something waitress was still holding her bruised cheek, her white shirt stained with spilled wine. She had risked her job and her physical safety to protect a complete stranger, never once expecting a reward.

"What is your name, my dear?" Rowena asked softly, her cold authority completely vanishing, replaced by a deep, breathtakingly warm maternal kindness.

"Thea, ma'am," the waitress whispered, wiping a tear from her eye.

"Well, Thea," Rowena smiled genuinely. "You are no longer a waitress in this hotel. Starting tomorrow morning, you are my personal executive assistant. I will be paying for your entire college tuition, fully funding your medical insurance, and ensuring you never have to serve another arrogant brat for the rest of your life."

Thea let out an apocalyptic sob of pure, unadulterated joy, dropping to her knees and gently hugging the billionaire matriarch.

Six months later, Callum and Avalene's toxic marriage completely collapsed. Without the Sterling trust fund, they were forced into bankruptcy. Avalene was forced to work a minimum-wage retail job, completely shunned by the high-society elite she used to manipulate, while Callum lived in a tiny, rundown apartment, completely forgotten by the empire he thought he owned.

Thea thrived. She became a brilliant, highly respected corporate executive, fiercely loyal to the incredible woman who had saved her from poverty.
