Chapter 3 - The Cold Authority

The heavy, suffocating silence in the ballroom was absolutely deafening. The wealthy guests at the bottom of the staircase stood completely frozen, watching the bride's horrific, unhinged meltdown.
A tight extreme close-up focused entirely on Rowena. The seventy-something woman in the wheelchair didn't look frightened by the screaming bride. She didn't tremble, and she didn't apologize for being in the way. She slowly lifted her chin. Her natural micro-expressions shifted from quiet observation into something terrifyingly powerful. Her silver eyes sharpened with a cold, absolute, and undeniable authority as she stared directly at the vicious blonde woman.
"You would rather see me break my neck on this marble than have a single drop of wine on your dress?" Rowena asked softly. Her voice wasn't loud, but it carried a freezing, lethal frequency that cut right through the ambient noise of the room.
Avalene scoffed loudly, stepping dangerously close to the wheelchair.
"I would rather you not exist in my presence," Avalene hissed venomously. "This is my wedding. I am marrying into the Sterling family empire today. I am going to be one of the wealthiest women in this entire city. You are nothing but a wrinkly, pathetic trespasser ruining my aesthetic."
Suddenly, heavy, hurried footsteps echoed up the marble staircase.
