Chapter 2 - The Stolen Credit

The cinematic tension outside the glass building was absolutely suffocating.

Elias wasn't just a random IT worker. He was the primary architect behind Riverton Technologies' most profitable machine-learning algorithm. He had worked eighty-hour weeks for a year, writing the foundational code that saved the company from the brink of bankruptcy.

But Elias never saw a single bonus.

Greg and his two corporate allies had completely stolen the credit. Because Elias was quiet and preferred working in the server room over attending high-society networking galas, Greg had smoothly presented the algorithm to the board of directors as his own "management initiative."

Greg was promoted to Senior Vice President. Elias was left in his cubicle with a standard, stagnant salary.

Now, standing in the bright morning sunlight, the executives wanted to make sure Elias knew his place. They fed on the power of degrading the people beneath them.

Chloe, a stunningly ruthless executive with blonde hair pinned in an elegant updo, stepped forward. She wore a chic cream suit skirt and blazer, clutching an expensive black leather handbag and a steaming artisanal coffee cup.

She looked Elias up and down, taking in his rolled sleeves and his dark jeans with pure, unadulterated disgust. She was determined to break his spirit completely in front of the morning crowd.
