Chapter 4 - The Hidden Patent

"I just like the fresh air," Elias replied quietly, his voice completely calm, steady, and entirely unbothered.

His complete lack of fear violently infuriated Greg. Bullies thrive on the panic of their victims, and Elias was staring at them like they were nothing more than annoying children throwing a tantrum on a playground.

What the three executives didn't know was that Elias wasn't broken by their betrayal last year. He had learned from it.

After they stole his algorithm, Elias had stopped working overtime for Riverton Technologies. Instead, he had spent the last twelve months quietly coding a revolutionary new data compression patent entirely on his own personal computer, strictly outside of company hours.

Greg had accidentally seen a glimpse of the code two weeks ago. Arrogant and completely technically illiterate, Greg had laughed at it, calling it "useless garbage" and legally declining Riverton's option to buy it, officially releasing all corporate claims to Elias's side project.

It was the most catastrophic, billion-dollar mistake Greg had ever made in his entire life.

Greg stepped aggressively closer to Elias, invading his personal space, desperate to force the engineer to cower.
