Chapter 5 - The Condescending Threat

Greg looked down his nose at Elias with complete, toxic superiority.
"You like the fresh air?" Greg mocked, his navy blue tie fluttering slightly in the morning breeze. "Well, you're going to have plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors. Because your performance review is this afternoon, Elias. And let me give you a spoiler: you aren't passing."
Chloe smirked, taking a slow sip of her expensive coffee. "Maybe you can get a job delivering food on that little bike."
"Listen to me carefully," Greg threatened, his voice dropping into a lethal, authoritative register meant to destroy Elias's career. "Maybe if you work hard, you'll make it to management someday. But not at this company. You're a nobody. You have zero ambition, zero drive, and zero value to Riverton."
Elias stood perfectly composed in his casual grey button-down shirt. The cinematic realism of his total, icy restraint was infinitely more powerful than screaming back at them.
He didn't defend his work ethic. He didn't beg for his job.
Elias casually reached one hand into the pocket of his dark jeans.
