Chapter 7 - The Hidden Contract

"She's lying!" Cassandra shrieked wildly, physically staggering backward as the elite crowd began to glare at her in sheer disgust. "Julian, you can't believe this psychotic servant! We are legally engaged! We signed the corporate merger documents this morning! You need my family's capital!"
Julian didn't scream. His quietness was infinitely more terrifying.
He calmly reached into his tailored black tuxedo jacket and pulled out a sleek, encrypted smartphone. He didn't dial a lawyer; he simply gave a subtle nod to his Head of Security standing by the grand curved staircase.
The massive security director marched forward, holding a thick, legally notarized red folder. He bypassed the weeping heiress and handed it directly to Julian.
"We aren't legally engaged, Cassandra," Julian stated clinically, his voice completely devoid of human mercy. "Because I was never a widower."
Julian opened the folder, revealing an original, unbroken marriage certificate bearing the federal seal.
"The death certificate your father bribed the coroner to create was a complete forgery," Julian explained flawlessly, holding the document up for the crowd to see. "Which means my marriage to Nora was never dissolved. In the eyes of the law, she has been my legal, highly protected spouse for the last five years."
