Chapter 9 - The Reassurance

The chaotic, toxic energy was entirely dragged out of the grand foyer.
The heavy front doors slammed shut, plunging the mansion back into a profound, heavy peace. Bishop, the Golden Retriever, finally turned around from the wall, his tail wagging slightly as he realized his five-minute timeout was officially over.
Vincent took a slow, deep breath, smoothing his black tie. He turned his attention back to the terrified maid standing by the stairs.
Nora was shaking violently, completely overwhelmed by the fact that the most dangerous man in the city had just burned a multi-billion-dollar strategic marriage to the ground solely to protect her child.
Vincent walked slowly back over to them. He didn't look like a terrifying CEO. He looked profoundly gentle, deeply respectful, and overwhelmingly protective.
He crouched down again, looking directly at Lucy.
"I think we need to go to the toy store," Vincent smiled softly, his dark eyes radiating absolute warmth. "We have a murdered rabbit to replace. And I think Bishop owes you an apology."
Lucy beamed, her bold, serious face breaking into a beautiful, innocent smile. She reached out and patted the massive guard dog's head, completely forgiving him.
Vincent looked up at Nora, offering her a hand to help her up from the floor.
