Chapter 2 - The Panicked Mother

The cinematic realism of the suffocating tension instantly paralyzed the massive dining table.
Marcus froze completely in his heavy, carved dining chair. He slowly lowered his expensive wine glass to the pristine white tablecloth. He didn't yell at the child. He didn't wave her away like a nuisance or call for his security team. He leaned forward in his tailored black tuxedo, staring at the tiny, bold girl in utter, breathtaking disbelief.
"What did you say?" Marcus whispered, genuine shock bleeding into his deep, commanding voice.
Lily didn't flinch under the terrifying billionaire's intense, intimidating gaze. She clutched her stuffed rabbit even tighter and looked him directly in the eyes with absolute, unyielding seriousness.
"Don't marry her," Lily repeated firmly, keeping her small finger pointed directly at the woman in the gold silk dress.
Suddenly, the heavy service doors in the background of the dining room flew open with a desperate crash.
Rosa, a thirty-something woman wearing a crisp, formal household staff uniform, rushed onto the gleaming hardwood floor. Her face was completely pale, contorted in sheer, unadulterated panic. She was a single mother, desperate to keep her job at the luxury estate, and her daughter had just publicly insulted the future lady of the house in front of the city's highest society.
