Chapter 3 - The Fake Smile

The entire wealthy crowd watched in stunned silence as the terrified maid dropped to her knees beside the billionaire's chair, frantically trying to pull the little girl away.
"I am so incredibly sorry, Mr. Marcus!" Rosa wept softly, her hands shaking as she tried to gather Lily into her arms. "I am so sorry, Miss Diana! The nanny stepped out for a moment, and she just wandered off! It will never happen again, I swear!"
Diana sat perfectly straight in her gold silk gown. She forced a perfect, bright, and toxically sweet smile onto her face for the wealthy guests watching her reaction.
But her natural micro-expressions betrayed a completely different, terrifying story.
Her dark eyes flashed with cold, vicious annoyance as she stared down at the tiny child in the pink dress. She hated the little girl, and she despised the desperate maid kneeling on the floor.
"Rosa, why is she interrupting?" Diana asked, her voice dripping with fake, sickening sweetness that barely concealed her absolute rage. "You know the rules about keeping the children in the staff quarters during formal events. Please take her away immediately before she ruins the entire evening."
But Marcus wasn't looking at the terrified mother, and he wasn't looking at the child.
