Chapter 5 - The Vicious Denial

The color violently drained from Diana's powdered face, leaving her looking like a terrified ghost.
"This is absolutely ridiculous!" Diana shrieked loudly, her toxic voice echoing across the silent dining room. She stood up so fast her chair scraped aggressively against the hardwood floor. Her gold silk dress swished as pure, unadulterated panic completely hijacked her mind.
"Marcus, you cannot possibly believe a filthy servant's child!" Diana wailed, pointing a trembling, manicured finger at the little girl. "She has a wild imagination! She doesn't even know what she's saying!"
Rosa wrapped her arms protectively around Lily, burying the little girl's face in her shoulder as the wealthy woman screamed at them.
"She is obviously lying to cover up for her mother stealing from us!" Diana continued, hysterically trying to shift the blame. "Rosa is a thief! I caught her snooping around the master bedroom yesterday! She put her brat up to this to ruin my reputation!"
Marcus didn't scream. His quietness was infinitely more terrifying.
He didn't look at Rosa, and he didn't comfort his hysterical fiancée. He slowly stood up to his full, towering height, completely dominating the opulent dining room. He looked directly at the expensive gold clutch resting on the table in front of Diana.

👉 Diana frantically lunged across the table to protect her purse, entirely unaware that she was already trapped.
