Chapter 1 - The Stripped Blanket

The grand luxury ballroom was a masterpiece of intimidating wealth. Glowing crystal chandeliers illuminated the polished wooden floors, massive white floral centerpieces, and hundreds of formally dressed elite guests murmuring in the background.
But the atmosphere near the center of the room was completely suffocating.
I was twenty-two, wearing a classic black maid uniform with a crisp white collar. My brown hair was pulled back tightly, and my hands were shaking as I stood near a heavy, specialized wheelchair.
Sitting in the wheelchair was Alexander. He was in his late thirties, incredibly handsome, with short brown hair, wearing an expensive black tuxedo, a white pleated shirt, and a black bowtie. His legs were covered by a thick, warm plaid blanket. He sat completely still, his eyes downcast, looking utterly helpless.
Suddenly, Victoria, his thirty-something fiancée, marched over to the wheelchair. She wore a stunning, strapless dark burgundy evening gown, radiating toxic, arrogant entitlement.
Victoria didn't smile warmly. She didn't greet him.
With a vicious, mocking smirk, she aggressively grabbed the plaid blanket and violently ripped it entirely off Alexander’s legs.
Alexander physically flinched, his handsome face flushing with deep, agonizing humiliation as his motionless legs were exposed to the staring guests.
"Look at him," Victoria sneered loudly, her cruel voice echoing off the crystal chandeliers, entirely ensuring the surrounding tables stopped to watch. "Completely helpless without his family's money."
I couldn't just stand there and watch her destroy him.
I rushed forward and dropped directly to my knees on the hardwood floor in front of the wheelchair. I frantically grabbed the plaid blanket, looking up at Alexander with desperate, profound concern.

"Sir, please don't let them humiliate you like this," I pleaded, my voice cracking. "Let me help you."
👉 Victoria prepared to kick me out of the way, entirely blind to the impossible miracle about to happen right in front of her.
