Chapter 4 - The Hidden Camera

"It's a miracle!" Victoria shrieked falsely, completely abandoning her cruel persona. She plastered a panicked, desperate smile onto her face and lunged forward, trying to hug him. "Oh, darling! The doctors were wrong! Our prayers have been answered!"
Alexander didn't even flinch. He raised one hand, catching her by the wrist and effortlessly holding her back.
"Don't touch me," Alexander whispered, his voice vibrating with a lethal, demonic danger that paralyzed her completely.
The wealthy guests in the background continued to stare in breathless, cinematic silence.
"You didn't pray for me, Victoria," Alexander stated smoothly, his dark eyes entirely devoid of human mercy. "You prayed I would die before the wedding so you wouldn't have to share the estate with a cripple."
"That's a lie!" Victoria wept hysterically, tears ruining her flawless makeup. "I took care of you! I fed you! I sacrificed my life for you!"
Alexander reached into the inside pocket of his black tuxedo jacket. He pulled out a sleek, flat smartphone and held it up.
"Two weeks ago, Julia helped me install hidden micro-cameras in the master suite," Alexander explained, his voice echoing off the crystal chandeliers. "I watched you pinch my arms when you thought I couldn't feel it. I watched you spit in my water glass. I watched you bring your lover into my house while I was sleeping in the next room."
Victoria physically staggered backward, her high heels scraping against the hardwood floor.
