Chapter 9 - The Cleared Room

Alexander stood perfectly still, watching the police cruisers speed away into the night. He took a deep, steadying breath, rolling his broad shoulders as the suffocating weight of the last twelve months finally lifted.
He turned around and looked at the crowd of wealthy, stunned guests.
"The party is over," Alexander announced, his voice projecting with absolute, undeniable authority.
His security team immediately stepped forward, politely but firmly escorting the shocked elite out of the estate. Within minutes, the massive, bright room was completely quiet, save for Alexander and myself.
I was still standing near the empty wheelchair, my hands trembling slightly from the adrenaline of the night. I had just witnessed the absolute destruction of a billionaire's fiancée.
I looked down at my black maid uniform, suddenly feeling incredibly out of place. I expected Alexander to simply write me a severance check and send me back to the kitchen.
Alexander walked slowly toward me.
The cold, terrifying executioner completely vanished. He looked exhausted, but his dark eyes were filled with a profound, overwhelming respect. He didn't look at me like a servant. He looked at me like an equal.

"You stood in the dark and forced me to walk when I wanted to give up," Alexander whispered softly, his deep voice filled with genuine gratitude. "You risked everything to protect a man who was already broken. I have never seen loyalty like that."
👉 Alexander reached into his pocket, preparing to deliver a reward that would change my entire life forever.
