Chapter 5 - The Poisoned Pen

"It was just a momentary lapse of judgment!" Victoria shrieked like a feral animal, completely exposed in front of her high-society peers. "I was stressed! Taking care of you was ruining my mental health!"

Alexander didn't yell. A quick, violent outburst was far too generous for a woman who had planned his murder.

He reached back into his pocket and pulled out a heavy, folded legal document and a sleek, silver fountain pen. He placed them directly onto a nearby cocktail table.

"I signed the new Power of Attorney paperwork you gave me this morning, Victoria," Alexander stated smoothly.

Victoria’s eyes widened. "You... you did?"

"I did," Alexander nodded. "The document that transfers complete control of my offshore accounts and my real estate directly to your name. The document you told me was just a standard tax form because you thought my brain was too damaged to read the fine print."

Victoria began to hyperventilate.

"But I didn't use the pen you handed me," Alexander continued coldly. "Because I had my private investigator test the ink inside your silver pen yesterday."

The entire ballroom held its breath.

"The ink was laced with a transdermal synthetic opioid," Alexander explained, ensuring every single guest heard the truth. "If I had held that pen, the drug would have absorbed through my skin. I would have died of a massive heart attack before the wedding. And you would have inherited a billion dollars as my grieving fiancée."
