Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Vow

The string quartet nervously resumed playing, the soft classical music filling the grand luxury ballroom once again. The elite guests, deeply terrified by the display of absolute power, quickly returned to their tables, keeping their heads respectfully lowered.
The rugged mafia boss sat down right next to Mrs. Carter at the head of the VIP table.
He didn't look at the politicians, and he didn't care about the charity event. He gently reached out and picked up the small red wax seal that she had placed carefully on the white tablecloth.
"I looked for you for twenty years," he whispered, a profound, heavy emotion returning to his dark eyes. "They told me the hospital burned down."
"I survived, my brave boy," Mrs. Carter said softly, placing her frail hand over his heavily tattooed knuckles. "And I never stopped believing you would find me."
He closed his hand over the wax seal, holding it tighter than he held any of his millions. The violent, bloody empire he had built was meaningless compared to the miracle sitting next to him.
