Chapter 6 - The Interruption

Vanessa, sitting at the VIP table in her off-the-shoulder red silk evening gown, watched the emotional embrace with absolute, unadulterated disgust.

She didn't care about the history. She didn't care about the cinematic reunion. She only cared that a filthy old woman in a cheap purple dress was currently stealing the spotlight at her elite charity gala.

"Excuse me!" Vanessa snapped loudly, slamming her champagne glass down onto the table. "I don't know what kind of pathetic street reunion this is, but I explicitly told the maid to remove this woman from my table! Take your little sob story out to the alley where it belongs!"

The entire ballroom went dead silent. The string quartet stopped playing.

The rugged man slowly opened his eyes. He didn't let go of Mrs. Carter. He gently tucked her safely behind his broad, muscular shoulders, shielding her entirely from the socialite's venom.

When he finally turned his head to look at Vanessa, the vulnerable, emotional boy was completely gone. The ruthless, terrifying apex predator of the city’s underworld had violently returned.

His dark eyes were pitch black, burning with a cold, apocalyptic rage that made the temperature in the massive ballroom instantly plummet.

👉 Vanessa realized she had just insulted the most dangerous man in the room, and her desperate attempt to backpedal would be entirely useless.
