Chapter 5 - The Broken Promise

The rugged man's tattooed hands were visibly trembling as he gently reached out, hovering his large fingers over the small red wax seal resting in Mrs. Carter's palm.
"You still have that?" the man asked, his voice thick, emotional, and completely amazed.
Twenty-five years ago, when the orphanage was forcibly shut down by corrupt city developers, a twelve-year-old boy had stood in the pouring rain, watching the only mother he had ever known being dragged away. Before the police separated them, he had pressed a tiny red wax seal into her hand—a token he had stolen from a fancy letter. He had made a tearful, desperate promise to find her when he was big enough to protect her.
He had spent two decades building a violent empire, searching endlessly, only to be told she had died in a hospital fire.
A tight, cinematic close-up focused entirely on Mrs. Carter's frail hand holding the small red object. The camera caught the faded, embossed letters stamped into the ancient wax: TRUE LOVE.
"I kept yours," Mrs. Carter said softly, off-screen, her voice wrapping around him like a warm blanket.

The terrifying mafia boss closed his eyes, a single, hot tear escaping and rolling down his tattooed cheek. He gently wrapped his massive arms around the elderly woman, pulling her into a desperate, reverent embrace right in the middle of the luxury ballroom.
👉 The beautiful reunion was absolute perfection, until the arrogant socialite decided to open her toxic mouth again.
