Chapter 12 - the digital hostage

Grace was meticulously analyzing quarterly reports in her executive penthouse when the red emergency phone on her mahogany desk began to ring violently. It was a highly secure line connected directly to the corporate security center.

Inheriting a terrifyingly cold, calculated composure from years of surviving hardship, Grace answered the phone. The head of security's voice was shaking with paralyzing, unadulterated panic. The primary design mainframe had completely vanished from the internal network, and the chief designers were locked out of the controls.

"It's a digital hijacking, Ms. Grace," the chief reported, his voice cracking under the immense pressure. "A rogue server has taken full remote control of the vault's autopilot. They are demanding fifty million dollars in untraceable cryptocurrency, or they will leak the entire spring collection to our competitors."

Grace’s dark eyes narrowed to freezing ice. Hundreds of jobs and billions in revenue were currently trapped in the digital ether, completely helpless.
