Chapter 2 - The Refusal

The cinematic tension in the grand ballroom was absolutely suffocating. The elite guests froze, their champagne flutes hovering in the air.
Vanessa’s arrogant smile faltered for a fraction of a second, but her toxic ego quickly recovered. She let out a breathy, dismissive laugh, assuming the powerful billionaire was simply making a bizarre joke.
"Nathan, darling, don't be ridiculous," Vanessa scoffed, adjusting her gold sequined gown to ensure all eyes were on her. "I brought her here as a charity case. She ruined one of my favorite silk blouses last week, and I told her she could pay off her debt by serving drinks to my friends tonight. It’s a generous offer for someone of her... class."
Nathan didn't laugh. He didn't blink. The cinematic realism of his restraint was infinitely more terrifying than any shout.
He closed the distance between them, stepping perfectly into Vanessa's personal space. His towering frame cast a massive shadow over her.
"I did not ask for a story, Vanessa," Nathan stated coldly, his voice vibrating with unstoppable, absolute authority. "I told you to apologize to her."
Vanessa’s face flushed red with sudden, unadulterated anger. She was the heiress to a massive luxury fashion empire. She was used to men bowing to her, not commanding her.
"I will absolutely not apologize to the help!" Vanessa shrieked, her high-society mask completely shattering into a feral, desperate panic. "I am your VIP guest! I am about to sign a fifty-million-dollar merger with your company tomorrow morning! You cannot speak to me like this over a pathetic dry cleaner!"
Nathan looked down at the furious woman in the gold dress. A cold, merciless smile touched his lips.

"You aren't signing anything tomorrow," Nathan whispered lethally. "Because you don't actually own your company."
