Chapter 1 - The Frantic Sprint

The heavy, automatic double doors of the modern, high-end American hospital corridor burst open violently.
Marcus sprinted through them, completely ignoring the dark blue overhead directional signs reading “Pediatrics.” He was a strikingly handsome billionaire in his late thirties with wavy dark brown hair. Normally, he looked immaculate, but today, his tailored light pink suit was violently wrinkled, and his white shirt was unbuttoned at the collar. His expensive silver watch glinted under the bright, sterile clinical lighting, but his face was completely pale with sheer, unadulterated terror.
He was clutching his three-year-old son, Zion, desperately to his chest.
Zion, a beautiful toddler with curly light brown hair, was wearing a light pink ribbed sweater, light beige trousers, and tiny white sneakers. But he was terrifyingly still. His small body was limp, his skin burning with a violent, unnatural heat.
"Somebody help my son!" Marcus roared, his voice cracking with breathless, absolute desperation as medical staff in blue scrubs rushed out of the nearby rooms. "He's not breathing!"
A team of nurses swarmed him immediately, pulling Zion from his arms and rushing the unconscious toddler into the nearest trauma bay. The doors slammed shut, leaving Marcus alone in the cold, sterile hallway.
Marcus collapsed against the hospital wall, sliding down to the linoleum floor. He buried his face in his trembling hands.
Just an hour ago, he had walked into the nursery of his sprawling mansion and caught his young housemaid, Emily, plunging his burning, unresponsive son into a freezing cold bathtub. Assuming she was abusing his child, Marcus had exploded in rage. He had fired her on the spot, screaming that he didn't pay her to think, before grabbing Zion and driving like a madman to the hospital.
