Chapter 9 - The Rightful Guardian

"I am firing my entire staff," Marcus declared smoothly, his dark eyes filled with absolute, unbreakable respect. "I am purging the estate. But I want you to stay."
Emily looked up, confused. "Stay? But sir, I'm just a maid."
"Not anymore," Marcus smiled warmly. "I am promoting you to Head of the Estate. I am quadrupling your salary. I am paying for your full college tuition, and I am giving you your own private suite in the mansion. From this day forward, you are Zion’s primary guardian when I am not home. You are family now. And nobody will ever disrespect you in my presence again."
Emily’s jaw dropped. The crushing reality of poverty and the fear of losing her job completely evaporated. She threw her arms around Marcus, hugging the towering billionaire with profound, genuine gratitude.
"Thank you, Mr. Marcus," Emily cried happily. "Thank you so much."
"No," Marcus replied, hugging her back. "Thank you."
Suddenly, the heavy door to the observation room opened. Dr. Harris walked out, a bright, genuine smile on his face.
"He's awake, Marcus," the doctor announced. "And he is asking for you."
Marcus didn't wait another second. He pushed past the door, walking into the warm, bright hospital room.
Zion was sitting up in his bed, looking completely healthy, his curly brown hair messy, playing with a small stuffed bear the nurses had given him.
