Chapter 8 - The Humble Apology

Marcus returned to the high-end hospital just as the sun began to set, casting a warm, golden light through the massive glass windows of the pediatric corridor.

He walked quietly toward Zion’s observation room. Sitting in a chair right outside the door, wearing her soft beige cardigan, was Emily. She hadn't left the hospital. She had stayed the entire day, completely refusing to abandon the little boy until she knew he was safe.

When she saw Marcus approaching, Emily immediately stood up, looking nervous and deeply unsure of her place.

"Mr. Marcus," Emily whispered, lowering her eyes. "I'm sorry I'm still here. I just wanted to make sure—"

Marcus didn't let her finish. He didn't ignore his expensive suit. He completely bypassed the arrogance of his wealth and dropped to one knee right in front of the twenty-two-year-old housemaid.

Emily gasped, covering her mouth with her hands in absolute shock.

"I am the one who is sorry, Emily," Marcus said softly, his voice thick with genuine, overwhelming emotion. "I was blind. I was an arrogant fool. I thought I was protecting my son, but I was just attacking the only person who actually cared about him. You saved my entire world today. I owe you a debt I can never repay."

Emily broke down into heavy, beautiful sobs of pure relief, wiping her eyes as the crushing weight of the trauma finally lifted.

"He's a good boy, sir," Emily wept. "I couldn't let her hurt him."
