Chapter 4 - The Nanny's Secret

An extreme, cinematic close-up captured Marcus inside the observation room. The immense, beautiful relief of his son surviving instantly turned into cold, paralyzing dread.
He pulled Zion closer to his chest, his eyes widening in pure horror. The blood completely drained from his face.
"Margaret..." Marcus whispered, a chilling realization freezing his vocal cords.
Margaret was Zion’s highly paid, elite British nanny. She had been with the family since Zion was born. She was the one who had brought Zion his warm milk just thirty minutes before the fever suddenly, violently spiked.
"Emily, what did you see?" Marcus demanded, his voice dropping to a lethal, urgent tone. "Tell me exactly what you saw!"
"I was cleaning the kitchen pantry," Emily cried softly over the phone, still hiding behind the hospital column. "Margaret didn't know I was there. She crushed a white pill into Zion's formula. When I asked her about it, she told me it was just his vitamins. But ten minutes later, Zion started seizing in his crib. She just stood there, sir. She stood there and watched him stop breathing. I had to push her out of the way to get him to the bathtub!"
Marcus’s jaw locked. The billionaire father vanished entirely. The ruthless, protective apex predator fully awakened.
"Where is Margaret right now?" Marcus asked, his voice deadly calm.
"She stayed at the house," Emily replied. "She told me she was going to pack her things because she knew you would blame her for the fever."
Marcus ended the call. He looked down at his beautiful, innocent son. Margaret wasn't packing because she felt guilty. She was packing because she had just attempted to murder the heir to a billion-dollar empire, and she needed to flee the country before the toxicology reports came back.
