Chapter 6 - The Stepbrother's Plot

Marcus walked slowly toward the duffel bag. Margaret tried to grab the folder, but Marcus grabbed her wrist with terrifying, unstoppable force, shoving her back against the wall.

He pulled the blue folder out of the bag and flipped it open.

The cinematic realization hit him like a physical blow. The documents weren't just random financial papers. They were heavily detailed, legally binding corporate transfer protocols for Marcus's massive tech empire.

In the event of Marcus's death, or the death of his only legal heir, Zion, the entire billion-dollar company would legally default to his estranged older stepbrother, Thomas.

"You're working for Thomas," Marcus whispered, the sheer, evil magnitude of the betrayal settling into his bones.

Margaret hyperventilated, realizing she was completely, inescapably trapped.

"He paid me a million dollars!" Margaret shrieked hysterically, completely dropping her sophisticated British accent, revealing a desperate, feral coward. "Thomas said Zion was a mistake! He said the empire belonged to the true bloodline! I was just supposed to make the boy look sick! I didn't know the pill would make him stop breathing!"

Marcus stared at the woman who had held his son, fed his son, and sung his son to sleep every night for three years. She had traded his child’s life for a million dollars in a briefcase.

"You poisoned a toddler for cash," Marcus stated, his voice completely devoid of human empathy.

"Please, Marcus!" Margaret sobbed, dropping to her knees on the expensive rug. "Thomas is dangerous! He threatened my family in London! You have to let me go! I can testify against him in court!"
