Chapter 9 - The CEO Steps Down

Christopher looked directly into Florence's tear-filled eyes.
"You were right, Mom," Christopher said softly, dropping to one knee beside her wheelchair. "I only gave you money. I let the company consume my entire life, just like it consumed Dad's."
Christopher stood up and looked at his sister.
"Hannah," Christopher said smoothly. "I am stepping down as CEO. Effective immediately. I am going to stay home and actually take care of my mother."
Florence let out a loud, beautiful sob of pure, unadulterated joy. She desperately pulled her massive, heavily tattooed son into a tight hug.
"But... who is going to run the company?" Hannah asked, completely stunned by the massive corporate shift.
"You are," Christopher smiled, a genuine, handsome smile breaking through his serious persona. "You have half the shares. You have the empathy this family desperately needs. You aren't going to wear a maid's uniform ever again."
Within twenty-four hours, the toxic, dark legacy of Richard's secret life was completely, permanently erased.
Hannah didn't clean floors anymore. She walked directly into the massive, glass-walled corporate headquarters wearing stunning, tailored power suits, commanding the absolute, undeniable respect of the executive board as the new co-owner of the empire.

Christopher completely transformed. He didn't wear dark, unbuttoned shirts and hide in his office. He wore comfortable clothes, spending every single day sitting by his mother's side, holding her hand through the rest of her chemotherapy treatments.
👉 Six months later, the dark shadows of the mansion were entirely banished.
