Chapter 3 - The Protective Misunderstanding
The spectacular glittering cascade of the falling crystal pyramid finally settled.
Because of Elena's lightning-fast reflexes and perfect spatial awareness, no glass touched either character. They were safely several feet away from the dangerous debris zone.
Close-up: Noah was completely safe, conscious, and physically unharmed, tucked securely in Elena’s protective arms. Elena was also entirely unharmed. She was breathing heavily, her chest rising and falling as the massive surge of adrenaline pumped through her veins, emotionally shaken by the incredibly near miss, but entirely uninjured.
Before Elena could even ask the little boy if he was okay, the crowd of stunned, silent guests violently parted.
Ethan rushed frantically through the crowd, his face pale with absolute, suffocating terror.
From his specific angle across the massive ballroom, Ethan hadn't seen the tower begin to tip. He hadn't seen the shadow of the falling glass. He had only seen his maid suddenly sprint forward, aggressively grab his five-year-old son, and dive to the floor right as a massive explosion of destruction occurred behind them.
His traumatized, highly paranoid brain immediately drew the most horrifying conclusion possible. He thought Elena had attacked his son.
"GET AWAY FROM MY SON!" Ethan roared, his deep, commanding voice vibrating with absolute, unyielding protective fury as he approached the pair with terrifying speed.
Elena didn't argue. She didn't scream back. Maintaining her absolute professionalism and understanding the intense panic of a traumatized father, she immediately stood up, gently and safely giving Noah directly into his father's arms. She took a slow, respectful step backward, remaining entirely steady and unharmed, her deep emerald-green satin blouse pristine.

Ethan securely held Noah against his chest, glaring at the maid with eyes that promised absolute destruction. He was seconds away from calling security to have her thrown out.
