Chapter 4 - The Child's Voice

Ethan gripped his son tightly, his heart hammering wildly against his ribs. He was entirely ready to unleash the full, terrifying extent of his billionaire wrath upon the woman standing in front of him.
But before Ethan could utter another harsh command, Noah urgently squirmed in his father's arms.
The little boy, looking incredibly sharp in his crimson-red silk blazer, wasn't crying. He wasn't terrified of the maid. He was pointing his small index finger directly at Elena with fierce, absolute conviction.
"Dad! She saved me!" Noah announced clearly, his cheerful, innocent voice cutting through the heavy, suffocating tension of the grand ballroom like a sharp knife.
Ethan completely froze.
The terrifying, blinding anger that had clouded his vision instantly vanished, violently replaced by a profound, heavy wave of shock, confusion, and sudden, deep guilt. He looked at his son, and then he looked back at the maid standing quietly in her gold-trimmed apron.
He realized, with a sickening jolt to his stomach, that he had just aggressively screamed at the woman who had risked her own safety to protect the most important thing in his entire world.
He opened his mouth, preparing to offer a deep, desperate apology.
But Noah wasn't finished speaking.
The little boy lowered his finger from Elena and immediately pointed it across the vast, crowded ballroom, aiming toward the dark shadows near the exit.
