Chapter 5 - The Corporate Shark

The delicate, heartbreaking cinematic moment was violently interrupted.

The heavy glass door of the diner was thrown open again. A woman in her thirties marched into the restaurant, wearing a sharp, custom-tailored grey pantsuit and heavy designer jewelry.

It was Eleanor, Voss’s ruthless, highly ambitious Vice President of Acquisitions. She was the architect behind the hostile takeover of the neighborhood.

Eleanor didn't notice the heavy emotional tension in the room. She was practically vibrating with toxic, unadulterated greed.

"Voss, what is taking so long?" Eleanor snapped impatiently, completely ignoring the waitress and the child. She slammed a thick, black leather folder directly onto the diner counter. "The demolition crew is waiting on standby. Just sign the eviction order so we can bulldoze this pathetic grease trap and go to the corporate holiday gala."

Voss slowly turned away from the window. The devastating grief completely vanished, replaced by a cold, highly observant, and lethal demeanor.

He looked at the black leather folder, and then he looked at his Vice President.

"The eviction order," Voss repeated quietly.

"Yes!" Eleanor sneered, glaring disgustedly at Mara and Lily. "These people have been squatting upstairs for months. I already called the local police precinct. They are sending two cruisers to physically escort them out of the building. We are clearing the entire block tonight."
