Chapter 6 - The Lethal Protection

Mara gasped, clutching Lily tightly against her apron. "You called the police?! On Christmas Eve?!"

"It's just business, sweetie," Eleanor mocked with absolute, condescending cruelty. "You should have paid your rent."

Eleanor shoved a heavy gold pen toward Voss. "Sign it, boss. Let's get out of this filthy neighborhood."

Voss didn't take the pen.

He stood tall in his dark coat, his grey temples catching the colored lights of the diner. He looked at Eleanor, and then he looked down at little Lily, who was still holding her crayon drawing of the warm house.

The billionaire apex predator fully awakened.

"I'm not signing it, Eleanor," Voss stated flawlessly, his voice carrying undeniable, absolute authority.

Eleanor froze, her arrogant smirk violently collapsing. "What? Voss, you have to sign it. We already sold the development rights to the overseas investors! If we don't demolish this block by midnight, the company loses forty million dollars!"

"Let them lose it," Voss replied coldly, entirely devoid of human empathy for the screaming executive.

"You can't do this!" Eleanor shrieked like a feral banshee, completely losing her corporate composure. "I engineered this entire deal! I am in line to be the next CEO!"

"You were in line," Voss corrected lethally.
