Chapter 3 - The Midnight Ambush

The dark purple bruises on Hannah’s face were not the result of a tragic accident. They were the physical evidence of Grant’s desperate, murderous greed.

Just twelve hours before the confrontation in the corridor, Hannah had been sleeping peacefully in her modest apartment. Grant could not afford to let her reach her due date. He knew that the absolute second Elias’s child was born alive, the board would immediately transfer executive control of the hospital trust to Hannah as the child's legal guardian. Grant would be left with absolutely nothing.

Under the cover of a violent midnight thunderstorm, Grant hired two ruthless thugs to break into Hannah's home. Their orders were explicit: stage a home invasion, assault the pregnant nurse, and ensure a catastrophic miscarriage without leaving any digital trace leading back to the hospital administration.

The thugs shattered her sliding glass door and ambushed her in the dark.

Hannah fought back with the feral, terrifying strength of a mother protecting her unborn child. She took brutal blows to her face and ribs, absorbing the agonizing impact to shield her swollen stomach. She managed to smash a heavy ceramic lamp over one attacker's head and crawled through the shattered glass to trigger her blaring security alarm, forcing the men to flee into the night before they could finish the job.
