Chapter 6 - The Human Shield

"I said get her out of here!" Grant roared, his professional veneer shattering into manic desperation. He reached out to grab the handles of the stretcher away from Paige.
Before his fingers could touch the metal, three veteran nurses stepped directly into his path.
They didn't say a word. They simply formed a solid, unmoving human wall between the intimidating corporate boss and the agonizing mother on the floor. These were the nurses who had worked alongside Elias Thorne. They knew Hannah’s heart, and they saw the horrifying, dark purple bruises covering her face.
"Step aside," Grant threatened, his voice trembling with rage. "That is a direct order. You will all be terminated!"
"Call the police," a senior charge nurse stated coldly, completely ignoring Grant as she knelt beside Hannah to check her vitals. "And page Dr. Harrison to Delivery Room Four. Tell him Elias's wife is crowning."
Grant’s blood ran cold. Dr. Harrison was the Chief of Medicine, a fiercely independent man who despised Grant's corporate greed and held immense power over the hospital's medical licenses. If Harrison took over Hannah's care, Grant would have absolutely zero access to her medical charts or her room.

The security guards finally jogged down the corridor, their radios crackling. They looked at Grant, waiting for orders, but as they saw the protective circle of medical professionals defying the CEO, they hesitated, refusing to lay hands on a bleeding, laboring woman.
👉 As the nurses lifted Hannah onto the stretcher, she pulled Paige close to reveal the ultimate weapon against the corrupt boss.
