Chapter 9 - The Lobby Arrest
The sound of the newborn's cry echoed through the heavy wooden doors, entirely shattering Grant's reality.
He didn't wait for the doctors to come out. He didn't try to negotiate. Driven by pure, cowardly panic, Grant abandoned his executive suite, sprinting toward the VIP elevators. He needed to get to his private car and flee the state before Paige reached the authorities with the audio recording.
He rode the elevator down in suffocating silence, adjusting his navy suit in a pathetic attempt to maintain his dignity.
The elevator doors chimed and slid open to the expansive, glass-walled main lobby.
Grant stepped out and instantly froze.
The automatic sliding glass doors were completely blocked. Standing in the center of the lobby were six heavily armed federal marshals, their tactical vests contrasting sharply with the pristine hospital environment. Standing safely behind them was Paige, pointing a steady finger directly at the CEO.
"Grant Thorne," the lead marshal announced, his voice booming across the crowded lobby. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, corporate embezzlement, and aggravated assault."
Grant tried to step backward into the elevator, but two hospital security guards—the same men he had tried to order around earlier—stepped out from the side corridors and firmly blocked his retreat.
