Chapter 3 - The Suspicion

Dominic Vale wasn't just a cruel man; he was a highly observant, deeply paranoid apex predator.
He saw the subtle movement of Caleb’s hands. He saw the intense, silent eye contact between his deaf son and the waitress. The arrogant, condescending demeanor completely hardened into dangerous, lethal suspicion.
"What did he say?" Dominic demanded coldly, his voice dropping into a sharp, terrifying register meant to terrorize people into absolute submission.
The heavy silence in the luxury steakhouse violently returned. The ambient jazz music playing over the speakers felt entirely wrong against the sudden, deadly tension.
A wide shot captured the four towering bodyguards violently shifting their weight. Their hands discreetly moved toward the inside of their dark suit jackets. Their cold, lethal eyes locked entirely onto the waitress.
The waitress didn't flinch. The cinematic realism of her total, icy restraint was infinitely more powerful than showing fear. She kept her facial expression completely neutral, perfectly masking the secret, mocking joke Caleb had just made about his father.
She turned her head to look at the ruthless crime boss.
"He ordered a ribeye, medium rare," the waitress replied calmly, translating only the safe part of the order.
