Chapter 9 - The Basement Rescue

Dominic didn't say a word to the waitress. He didn't need to.
He snatched the suppressed handgun off the table, moving with explosive, blinding, cinematic speed. He bypassed the terrified restaurant guests and violently kicked open the heavy doors to the basement wine cellar.
Down in the dark, cold cellar, Caleb was on his knees. Leo, the traitorous bodyguard, was standing over him, raising his weapon to execute the deaf man.
But Leo never got the chance to pull the trigger.
Dominic raised his handgun and fired three rapid, flawless shots directly into Leo’s chest. The heavy, suppressed gunfire echoed quietly in the basement.
Leo’s eyes rolled back, and his arrogant, toxic reign of greed and betrayal ended instantly, his body collapsing heavily onto the concrete floor. The other three bodyguards froze in absolute, paralyzing terror, immediately dropping their weapons and throwing their hands in the air, realizing the coup was destroyed.
Dominic completely ignored the remaining traitors. He rushed forward and dropped to his knees in the dirt, grabbing Caleb’s shoulders.
Caleb was hyperventilating, his eyes wide with pure shock. He looked at his father, expecting to be killed.
Instead, Dominic looked at his son with profound, devastating regret. For the first time in thirty years, Dominic awkwardly, desperately raised his trembling hands.
