Chapter 4 - The Final Sign

Dominic leaned back in his expensive leather chair, picking up his crystal whiskey glass. He didn't believe the waitress for a single second, but he didn't have proof she was lying.

"Get the food," Dominic ordered lethally, entirely dismissing her.

As the waitress turned to walk away, an extreme, cinematic close-up focused on Caleb. He caught her eye one last time before she could leave the table.

He didn't sign about the steak. Below the table’s edge, completely out of his father's line of sight, Caleb made one final, desperate, and urgent hand sign.

Don't tell him.

The waitress gave a tiny, almost imperceptible nod and walked smoothly toward the kitchen, her heart hammering violently against her ribs.

She knew exactly what Caleb was hiding.

When she had been clearing the appetizer plates earlier, she had accidentally bumped into Caleb’s suit jacket. She had felt the heavy, undeniable shape of a suppressed handgun hidden in his inner pocket. But more importantly, she had noticed the small, blinking red light of a federal recording wire strapped to his chest beneath his tailored shirt.

Caleb wasn't just sitting down for dinner with his abusive father. He was an active federal informant, and he was heavily armed. He was wearing a wire to legally destroy Dominic’s entire criminal empire tonight.
