Chapter 10 - The Promise Kept

Victoria was dragged out of the grand ballroom in handcuffs, her custom white gown ruined and torn, her mascara running down her face in dark streaks. The three bridesmaids were arrested right alongside her as accomplices to child abuse. They would all be facing decades in federal prison.

The elite guests slowly filed out of the room, leaving Arthur, Leo, and Elena alone under the glowing crystal chandeliers.

Arthur stood up, offering his hand to Elena.

"You are no longer a maid in this house," Arthur said, his voice thick with immense respect and gratitude. "You are family. I don't care what it takes, but I want you to stay. As a nurse, as a guardian, as whatever you want to be. I owe you my son's life."

Elena looked at the diamond ring resting against her chest. She reached back, unclapsed the gold chain, and gently handed the ring back to Arthur.

"Claire wanted you to have this back when the truth was revealed," Elena smiled warmly. "And I would be honored to stay, Mr. Sterling. Leo still has a lot of lullabies left to hear."

Over the next few years, the dark shadow that Victoria had cast over the Sterling family completely vanished. Arthur stepped back from his exhausting CEO duties to spend every possible moment with his son.

Elena became the head of the household, eventually starting a charitable foundation in Claire's name, funded entirely by Arthur. She and Leo remained inseparable, bound by a promise made in the dark that ultimately brought them all into the light.

Do you think Arthur should have noticed the abuse sooner, or was Victoria just a master manipulator?
