Chapter 2 - The Shocking Confession

The entire ballroom went dead silent. The string quartet stopped playing.
Arthur’s eyes widened in absolute shock and horror. The breath was completely knocked out of his lungs. His knuckles turned pure white as his hand tightly gripped the back of a golden dining chair, the polished metal reflecting his own silver wedding band.
A few feet away, the three bridesmaids gasped loudly, their eyes wide and their mouths hanging open in utter disbelief. They stared at the maid as if she were a ghost.
Arthur took a slow, trembling step forward. "Leo?" he whispered, completely paralyzed by the bizarre scene. "Why are you calling her that?"
The little boy slowly lifted his head from the maid's shoulder. He looked up at his father with tear-filled, innocent eyes, his face blotchy and red from crying.
"She sings Mommy's song," Leo cried softly, his lower lip trembling.
The maid didn't look away from Arthur. Her chest rose and fell with natural, restrained breathing, but her face held a deeply emotional, pained expression. Without breaking eye contact with the towering billionaire, she slowly reached her trembling fingers up to her neck.
From underneath her stiff white uniform collar, she slowly pulled out a long, delicate gold chain.
Hanging at the bottom of the chain was a massive, flawless, custom-cut diamond ring.
