Chapter 5 - The Uninvited Guest
Down in the luxury dining room, the atmosphere was electric.
"And with your fifty-million-dollar investment," Daniel bragged, standing at the head of the glass table in his tailored gray jacket, "Vanguard Holdings will dominate the international market. As the sole owner and CEO, I guarantee a complete return on your investment within twenty-four months."
The wealthy investors nodded in approval, raising their crystal champagne flutes. Madison smiled radiantly, mentally calculating how much of that fifty million she could siphon into her offshore accounts.
Suddenly, the heavy mahogany front doors of the mansion echoed with three loud, authoritative knocks.
Daniel frowned. "Madison, I thought you told the caterers to use the service entrance?"
Before Madison could answer, the front doors swung wide open.
Stepping into the opulent foyer wasn't a caterer. It was Mr. Sterling, the most feared, ruthless, and expensive corporate attorney in the state. He wore a razor-sharp black suit and carried a thick leather briefcase.
Flanking him were four massive, heavily armed private security contractors.
The polite jazz music in the dining room seemed to instantly evaporate. The wealthy investors lowered their glasses, murmuring in confusion as the intimidating legal team marched directly into the dining room.
"Excuse me!" Madison shrieked, completely dropping her sophisticated facade. "Who do you think you are?! Security, get them out of my house!"
Daniel stepped forward, puffing out his chest to look authoritative. "Sterling? What the hell are you doing here? I didn't summon corporate counsel to this dinner."
Mr. Sterling stopped at the edge of the glass table. He didn't look at Daniel with an ounce of respect.

"I am not here on your behalf, Daniel," Mr. Sterling stated, his voice a low, echoing rumble that sent a shiver through the room. "I am here representing the sole, legal owner of Vanguard Holdings and this estate."
