Chapter 2 - The Shard of Glass

Victor didn't even blink. He completely ignored the woman in the red dress.
He slowly pushed his crystal wine glass aside and turned his imposing frame toward the trembling sixty-year-old maid. He reached out and gently, but firmly, took Maria’s injured arm.
"I asked Maria," Victor stated, his voice a lethal mix of gentle care and unyielding authority. "Show me."
Maria squeezed her eyes shut, her chest heaving with silent, terrified sobs. She didn't pull away as Victor’s tattooed hands carefully began to peel back the blood-soaked layers of the white bandage.
The elite guests at the table stopped eating. The room went dead silent.
As the final layer of gauze fell away, Victor didn't find a burn. He found a deep, jagged laceration. And lodged directly in the center of the bleeding wound was a sharp, thick piece of foreign material.
Victor reached in with his thumb and forefinger. With surgical precision, he pulled it out.
He held the object up to the light of the crystal chandelier. It was a sharp, bloodstained shard of dark green glass. The thick, curved edge caught the warm light, casting a sickening green reflection across the white tablecloth.
Victor stared at the green glass shard. The calm, observant demeanor instantly evaporated. His facial micro-expressions twisted, his jaw locking as his eyes turned intensely dark and dangerous.
"Where did this come from?" Victor demanded, his voice dropping to a cold, echoing rumble.
