Chapter 5 - The Deadly Feast

"Victor, you are ruining our dinner party!" Evelyn screamed, her elegant facade completely melting into a desperate, feral panic.
"Sit down, Evelyn," Victor ordered. It wasn't a request.
Evelyn slowly sank back into her chair, her hands trembling violently in her lap.
Victor reached out and picked up the silver gravy boat. He poured a generous, steaming portion of the dark brown liquid directly onto his own pristine white plate, right next to the bloodstained green glass.
Then, he picked up the plate and set it down directly in front of his fiancée.
He handed her a silver fork.
"Eat," Victor said softly.
The entire room stopped breathing. The silence was so absolute that the crackle of the fireplace sounded like gunshots.
Evelyn stared at the gravy as if it were a pool of battery acid. Sweat beaded on her forehead, ruining her immaculate makeup.
"I... I'm not hungry," Evelyn stammered, her voice shrinking into a pathetic squeak.
"You've been complaining about being starved all afternoon," Victor noted calmly, leaning his knuckles against the table. "I said, eat it."
"No!" Evelyn shrieked, violently pushing the plate away. It tipped over, spilling the poisoned gravy across the crisp white tablecloth.
