Chapter 8 - The Stripping of the Queen

Two massive guards grabbed Evelyn by the arms, slamming her brutally back into her chair.
"No! You can't do this to me!" Evelyn shrieked like a banshee, kicking wildly. "I am going to be your wife!"
"You are nothing," Victor stated. He walked over to her, his towering, muscular frame casting a dark shadow over her panicked face.
Victor reached out with his tattooed hand. He didn't strike her. He simply grabbed the heavy, flawless diamond necklace resting against her collarbone. With one sharp, violent yank, he snapped the clasp.
The diamonds cascaded onto the floor like shattered ice.
"You came into my house with nothing," Victor said, his eyes dead and merciless. "And you are leaving with exactly that."
"Victor, please! I'll leave the city! I'll never come back!" she sobbed, her sophisticated updo falling apart into a messy, pathetic tangle.
"You aren't leaving the city," Victor corrected her coldly. "I am handing the security footage and the poisoned gravy over to the District Attorney. But before the police arrive, you are going to sit in the dark basement and think very carefully about what happens to people who threaten children under my protection."
The guards hauled her up. Evelyn screamed and thrashed, her dark red gown tearing as she was dragged out of the dining room. Her hysterical cries echoed down the grand hallway, fading into the dark belly of the estate.
