Chapter 3 - The Red Toy Car

The cinematic realism of the heavy, emotional tension gripped the grand hallway.

Standing entirely hidden in the deep shadows of the grand staircase was Adrian Moretti himself. He was thirty-nine, heavily muscular, with short blonde hair and dark, intricate tattoos visible beneath his rolled-up sleeves. Wearing a black vest, a white shirt, and a loosened black tie, the hardened mafia boss stood perfectly still.

He had returned home early from a syndicate meeting and had been watching the heartbreaking scene unfold in absolute silence.

Adrian expected his eight-year-old son to demand his own lavish presents. He expected Owen to ignore the weeping maid, just like the rest of the elite, wealthy guests who visited the mansion.

But Owen didn't look at the massive mountain of silver and red gifts.

A tight close-up focused entirely on Owen's small hands. The eight-year-old boy gently reached out and offered a small, heavily chipped red toy car directly to Lucy. It wasn't a new toy. It was clearly a beloved, highly cherished item that Owen had played with for years.

"Santa didn't forget you," Owen said. His voice was quiet, incredibly sincere, and completely devoid of any childish arrogance. "He gave this to me by mistake. It has your name on it."

A close-up captured Lucy's face. The three-year-old girl blinked away her heavy tears. She looked down at the chipped red toy car in absolute awe, her tiny hands gently taking it from the older boy. She completely, entirely believed him.

"He did?" Lucy whispered, a beautiful, genuine smile finally breaking across her tear-stained face.
