Chapter 5 - The Boss Steps In

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, paralyzing tension spiked to an absolute, apocalyptic level.

"Give it back!" Owen yelled bravely, standing up to defend the little girl.

"Go to your room, Owen," Mrs. Higgins demanded arrogantly, pointing a manicured finger toward the stairs. "Before I inform your father of your disobedience."

"You don't need to inform me of anything," a freezing, lethal voice echoed from the shadows.

Mrs. Higgins completely froze. All the color violently drained from her powdered face. The heavy toy car slipped slightly in her trembling grip.

Adrian Moretti stepped fully into the warm light of the Christmas tree.

A tight close-up captured Adrian’s face. The stoic, hardened expression he usually wore had completely cracked. The profound, overwhelming pride he felt for his son's empathy was entirely eclipsed by a dark, terrifying, and utterly demonic fury directed solely at the housekeeper.

He didn't yell. He didn't draw a weapon. He walked slowly across the marble floor, his towering, muscular frame radiating a crushing, undeniable aura of absolute death.

"Mr. Moretti!" Mrs. Higgins stammered pathetically, physically staggering backward. "I... I was just protecting Master Owen! The maid was trying to—"

"You threw her Christmas presents in the incinerator?" Adrian interrupted, his voice dropping to a terrifying frequency that made the heavy glass ornaments on the tree literally vibrate.

"They... they were a fire hazard, sir!" the housekeeper panicked, her arrogant persona completely shattering.
