Chapter 1 - The Banquet Insult

The incredibly elegant, massive indoor banquet hall was a breathtaking spectacle of high-society extravagance. A towering, brilliantly sparkling crystal chandelier hung from the high ceiling, casting a warm, expensive glow over a ridiculously long dining table perfectly set with fine china plates, polished silver, and crystal wine glasses. In the background, dozens of incredibly wealthy guests in expensive formal wear mingled softly, celebrating the family's lavish anniversary.

But the sophisticated, polite atmosphere was completely, violently shattered near the head of the long dining table.

Standing rigidly at the head of the table was the Grandmother. She was a woman in her sixties with short, perfectly styled grey hair, wearing a highly expensive, dark burgundy dress. Her face was twisted into a mask of pure, unfiltered, and deeply toxic aristocratic disgust.

She wasn't glaring at a clumsy waiter or an uninvited guest. She was glaring coldly and directly at her own grandchild.

"This girl has defective genetics," the Grandmother shouted, her cruel, mocking voice echoing sharply over the sudden, dead silence of the entire banquet hall, ensuring every single wealthy guest heard her devastating insult.

Standing just a few feet away was Jessie. She was a beautiful woman in her thirties with long, flowing brown hair, wearing an elegant, long-sleeve sage green dress. She was holding her crying, terrified one-year-old baby girl tightly against her chest.

Jessie didn't cry. She didn't shrink away from the powerful matriarch. She held her baby defensively, her entire body rigid with absolute, protective fury as she glared directly back at the cruel older woman.

"Say that again," Jessie threatened. Her voice was incredibly low, vibrating with a dark, lethal, and absolutely terrifying maternal rage that made the temperature in the room plummet.
