Chapter 4 - The Diamond Scratch

Earlier that evening, before the massive banquet had officially started, Jessie had been standing near the back of the room, quietly feeding her beautiful baby girl in her pristine white dress.

The Grandmother had suddenly stormed over, completely surrounded by a group of her wealthy, elitist friends. Wanting to play the role of the perfect, doting matriarch for the cameras, she had aggressively, violently snatched the baby directly out of Jessie's arms without asking.

The sudden, rough movement had completely terrified the one-year-old child. The baby immediately began to scream and cry, desperately reaching her small, frantic arms out for her mother.

Embarrassed that the baby was crying in front of her high-society friends, the Grandmother’s face twisted into an ugly, impatient scowl. Instead of gently handing the child back, she aggressively, roughly shoved the weeping baby back into Jessie’s chest.

As the Grandmother violently pulled her hand away, her massive, incredibly sharp, multi-carat diamond engagement ring dragged harshly and deeply right across the baby’s soft, delicate cheek.

The sharp diamond sliced into the tender skin, leaving a bright, angry, and incredibly visible red scratch right across the side of the little girl's face.

Jessie had gasped in pure horror, her maternal instincts completely exploding as she cradled her sobbing, injured child. She had immediately confronted the older woman, demanding an apology for physically hurting the baby.

Instead of apologizing, the Grandmother had sneered, entirely dismissing the injury as a minor inconvenience, marching directly to the head of the long dining table and loudly announcing that the child was "defective" and "overly dramatic" just like her mother.
