Chapter 7 - The Final Insult

The Grandmother slammed her hands down hard onto the polished wood of the long dining table, completely furious that Jessie had dared to speak back to her precious son.

"How dare you speak to my son that way in my house!" the Grandmother shrieked, her face turning an ugly shade of red that matched her dark burgundy dress. "You are completely ungrateful! We brought you out of the gutter, and this is how you repay us? By throwing a hysterical tantrum like a low-class animal?"

Jessie held her baby tighter, completely ignoring the screaming woman. She began to turn toward the exit, fully intending to walk out of the toxic estate and never, ever return.

"Take your defective, sickly little brat and get out!" the Grandmother continued, her arrogant voice dripping with pure venom. "She’s constantly crying, she’s weak, and she’s a massive disappointment! That pathetic genetic weakness obviously comes from your trashy side of the family. The Bellmont bloodline is completely flawless! We only breed strong, superior heirs!"

Jessie stopped dead in her tracks.

The heavy, suffocating silence returned to the massive banquet hall.

Jessie didn't run away. She didn't cry. She slowly turned her body back toward the head of the long dining table. A deeply cold, incredibly dangerous, and utterly devastating smile began to spread across her face.

"Flawless bloodline?" Jessie asked, her voice dropping into a terrifyingly calm, chilling register.

Jessie reached down into the side pocket of her diaper bag resting on the nearest chair. She had been carrying a very specific, highly explosive document with her all evening, completely unsure if she was actually going to use it.
