Chapter 2 - The Elitist Family

To understand why a grandmother would hurl such a vicious, unforgivable insult at an innocent baby, one had to look back at the incredibly toxic, deeply abusive history of Jessie’s marriage.

Jessie had grown up in a hardworking, middle-class family. When she met and married her husband, David, she thought she was marrying a kind, gentle man. But David came from an incredibly wealthy, intensely snobbish, and heavily connected high-society family. And his mother, the formidable matriarch, had absolutely never approved of the marriage.

From the very first day they met, the Grandmother had treated Jessie like complete, disposable trash.

The older woman constantly made cruel, passive-aggressive comments about Jessie’s "low-class" upbringing, her public school education, and her lack of a massive trust fund. She believed her family possessed a superior, completely flawless genetic bloodline, and she viewed Jessie as an inferior parasite entirely unworthy of their aristocratic name.

When Jessie became pregnant, the Grandmother had been temporarily satisfied, assuming Jessie would finally provide the family with a highly coveted male heir to carry on the corporate dynasty.

But when Jessie gave birth to a beautiful, healthy little girl instead, the Grandmother’s toxic disappointment instantly curdled into open, blatant hostility. For the past year, she had aggressively ignored the baby, refusing to hold her, refusing to celebrate her milestones, and constantly complaining to her high-society friends that her son's bloodline had been "watered down" by a weak, useless female child.

Jessie had endured the psychological torture in absolute silence, desperately trying to keep the peace for the sake of her marriage. She thought her husband would eventually stand up and protect them.
